Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Sal Calabrese
Sal Calabrese is the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer at Gentium S.p.A., the only Italian biotech company listed on the American Stock Exchange first (AMX: GNT) and subsequently on Nasdaq GM (Nasdaq: GENT). Gentium was recently acquired by Jazz Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: JAZZ) in a one billion dollar deal transaction. Gentium is focused on the discovery, research, and development of drugs to treat and prevent a variety of vascular diseases and conditions related to cancer and cancer treatment.
Sal specializes in equity and debt transactions, M&A, start-up management, finance, corporate governance, legal affairs, and accounting management, in addition to his vast expertise in accounting, SEC filings, budgeting, finance, IT&C, tax, human resources, internal control, GMP manufacturing, and operations.
From December 2003 until February 2005, he was an Accounting and Finance Manager for Novuspharma, S.p.A., a development stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of cancer drugs and a subsidiary of Cell Therapeutics, Inc., a public reporting company, which then merged into Cell Therapeutics, Inc. From September 1996 until November 2003, Mr. Calabrese was employed by PricewaterhouseCoopers as an Accountant and was a Manager in Assurance Business Advisory Services at the time of his departure. From October 2000 to June 2003, Mr. Calabrese worked in the Boston, MA office of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
In 1993, Sal completed an Erasmus Project in Economics with the University of Ulster at Coleraine (Northen Ireland). He received his Bachelor Degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Università degli Studi di Messina in 1995. Continuing his studies, Sal attended the Istituto Universitario di Studi Superiori Pavia, where he earned his Master Degree in Accounting, Audit, and Financial Control in 1996. Sal also completed a course in Transfer Pricing at SDA Bocconi in 2013.
Sal’s experience and great communication skills have led him to speak at various public events and with the Istituto Universitario di Studi Superiori Pavia. He offers his wisdom to professional organizations such as ANDAF, Biotech & Pharma Professionals Network, and CFO Italia, amongst countless other associations. Sal is also listed in the Italian National Audit Register held by the National Justice Department.
Sal bases his success on determination, motivation, and hard work. His future goals consist of gaining experience in the coming years, taking on more challenges, and moving forward professionally.
