Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Wanda Cakebread

Wanda Cakebread is the Chairperson at Can-Teach. Her responsibilities include organizing fundraising events to secure the financial health of the organization enabling people to teach English as a Second language in El Salvador and building teams; recruiting and training staff and using new technologies to manage a team of teachers globally.

With a career in teaching that spans 40 years, it is second nature for Wanda to proficiently identify areas of deficiency and set to work designing and implementing strategies to create consistent, sustainable growth for the future. From 2002 to presently, she has been a chairperson for the Waterloo Region Holocaust Education Committee where her responsibilities include building strategic alliances with other organizations to develop and support knowledge about the Holocaust- its causes, effects and prevention. She has organized teacher workshops, student forums and related events for the public community. She has additional experience in China and Korea with ALPHA, studying issues surrounding ‘Comfort Women’ and concurrently, on the ground in Rwanda examining the effects of the Rwandan Genocide against the Tutsis. Currently she teaches English as a second language in Columbia with ESL for Peace and she Chairs the Quest Program which creates and provides educational experiences. She is affiliated with the Retired Teachers of Ontario and Child Haven International.

Wanda finds that traveling expands one’s understanding of everything. Education, both in terms of life experiences and academic accomplishment is extremely important to her. Compassion is a penultimate virtue in Wanda’s life. She currently lives in Ontario, Canada where she enjoys quilting in her spare time
