Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Hans Ågren , MD PhD

Dr. Hans Ågren is a Professor emeritus at Sahlgrenska Academy, specializing in psychiatric neurobiology. The Sahlgrenska Academy is the faculty of Health Sciences at University of Gothenburg, where Dr. Ågren worked as a Professor for 19 years. He engages in clinical psychiatry research and teaching, and works internationally with renowned scientists.

After completing his MD in 1971 and PhD in 1981 from Uppsala University, Dr. Ågren became a full Professor at the University of Gothenburg in 1993. He left briefly to teach at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm 1998-2006 but returned to the University of Gothenburg again in 2006. He served as the President of the Scandinavian College of Neuropsychopharmacology 1989-1993 and President of the Swedish Psychiatric Association 2002-2004. His main interests have been in diagnosis of psychiatric disorders and neurobiological interactions, with a particular focus on depression. Dr. Ågren was the recipient of an Anna Monica Award for research on depression 1992.

Dr. Ågren’s diverse interests and thirst for knowledge span cross-culturally. He enjoys reading and foreign languages, speaking both Swedish and English fluently, with a professional working proficiency in French and German and a basic working knowledge of Japanese, Chinese, and Arabic. He is a member of ECNP and CINP and currently resides in Hovås, close to Gothenburg, Sweden.
