Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Dr. Ian G. Malcolm
Ian G. Malcolm is currently Emeritus Professor in the School of Communications and Arts at Edith Cowan University (ECU), having retired as Professor of Applied Linguistics in 2003. He is co-author of English and the Aboriginal Child (1982), editor of Linguistics in the Service of Society (1991), co-editor of Communication and the Teacher (1981), The Habitat of Australia’s Aboriginal Languages (2007) and author or co-author of numerous reports, book chapters and journal articles.
Holding a PhD in Linguistics, a first class honours degree in French and a Dip Ed from University of Western Australia, Ian has had a long career focused on education. In the course of his 38 year career at ECU he established the study of linguistics from undergraduate to doctoral level, founded and co-directed the Centre for Applied Language and Literacy Research and served as foundation Dean of the Faculty of Arts. He is engaged in ongoing consultancy with the Department of Education, Western Australia, with respect to the implementation of two-way bidialectal education for speakers of Aboriginal English and has been recently commissioned by Mouton to write the monograph on Aboriginal English in their series Dialects of English. He is a member of the Alumni of Edith Cowan University, University of Western Australia and a trustee of the Trinity Theological College in Perth. He has been honoured with honorary life membership of the Australian Linguistic Society, The Applied Linguistics Association of Australia and the Westralian Association of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. Additionally, he does volunteer work teaching English to migrants at his local Anglican church.
Living in beautiful Perth in Western Australia, Ian has enjoyed hockey and singing in the choir in his free time. He is fluent in French, German and English.
