Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes William Bawden, PhD

William Bawden is the CEO of Mine Design Engineering and Mine Design Techologies Inc. A professor of  mining engineering at Queens University and the University of Toronto for over 25 years, William is now retired from teaching, and focused on his two companies: Mine Design Technologies and Mine Design Engineering. He looks forward to networking with other professionals in the Mining and Metals and Heavy Civil industries.
 
Dr. Bawden is Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto, where he taught mining geomechanics and conducted research in rock engineering for 15 years. He held the Pierre Lassonde Chair in Mining Engineering at the University of Toronto, and he was a Professor of Mining engineering at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario prior. He also held the Chair in Mine Design and was head of Departement at Queen’s. Before his career in academics, Dr. Bawden worked for Noranda Mining [Montreal], Geotechnical Resources Ltd. [Calgary] and Acres Consulting Services [Niagara Falls]. Dr. Bawden has been an active consultant to the international mining industry providing services in rock engineering, geotechnical engineering and mine backfill since 1989 and continues this practice since retiring from academia.
 
Dr. Bawden earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto, and an MSc in Rock Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His BSc was in Engineering  Geology at Queen’s University. He is  a member of the  Professional Engineers of Ontario [PEO], the Society of Professional Engineers of Ontario, the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, the Society of Mining Engineering in the United States, the Tunnelling Institute of Canada and the International  Society of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences.
 
A Fellow and Life Member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum [CIM], and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Dr. Bawden also won the CIM Rock Mechanics Award. He lives in Toronto, Ontario,  Canada, where he enjoys playing golf and cycling.
