Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Dr. Peter Mertin

Dr. Peter Mertin is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society, and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. In his position as a Child and Family Counselor, has been working in the Legal Services Commission since 2000.  The Legal Services Commission provides legal assistance in the areas of Federal (Family law) and State (Criminal) legal aid.  Dr. Mertin provides expert reports for the Family Court in those cases that are regarded as complex, e.g., where there are issues of child safety, domestic violence, and parental drug use.  In these matters his primary responsibility is to advise the court on the best interests of the child.

From the mid 1970′s Dr. Mertin worked with children, adolescents and their families in the mental health care area. During this time he also lectured in post-graduate psychology on a casual basis, as well as acting as an external thesis supervisor at both the Masters and Doctor of Psychology levels.  As a consequence of an ongoing interest in the effects of domestic violence on women and children Dr. Mertin has presented this information in seminars to the State police force throughout the 1980′s- 1990′s, and is currently a consultant to a women’s domestic violence service in Adelaide.

Obtaining his PhD in Domestic Violence and Trauma from the University of South Australia was a major academic achievement, and he published 3 papers from his thesis while in route to his doctorate. Consistent with an interest in clinical research, he currently has 31 publications in scientific journals.  Outside of his professional life he supports the Animal Welfare League, an organization helping homeless dogs and cats, and also finds time to play the occasional game of Golden Oldies rugby.

Bristol Who’s Who Member, Dr. Peter Mertin, can be found on the Who’s Who Directory where he is looking forward to networking with clinicians with similar interests.
