Bert Jagel is the Owner/Managing Director of Sustainable Business Development. Established in 2010 Sustainable Business Development is an independent international working company, based in The Netherlands. The core business of the company involves project managing the development of real estate, sustainable waste & energy facilities, solar energy systems and water purification installations. They cover every aspect of their projects from design to delivery & maintenance, including providing the financing and insurance. The have several partnerships with renown companies such as GTP Real Estate Development Ltd; Posteconomics Capital LLC Hawaii/Ukraine; Axion Leisure Development; Van Dijk Eco Solutions FZC; Meerath Capital Management and AON Plc. During his tenure with Sustainable Business Development Bert has focused on the sustainable development of international industrial, public and commercial facilities, such as the new Campus of the University of Suceava (Romania), Zero Waste&Energy facilities in CEE, an autarchic village Popesti (Romania) and the Leisure Dome Bucharest (Romania). In conjunction with his role at Sustainable Business Development, Bert works as a financial broker and advisor for various parties. He lectures in the areas of Sustainability, Architecture and Integral Design and is a Member of the CEE Green Building Professional Association and the Association of Consulting Engineers of the Netherlands. He is also Vice-Chairman of Foundation Think Tank Project NL, The Netherlands: the goal of the foundation is to restore the trust of the Dutch public/politicians in large public projects.
With a BSc in Architectural Engineering and Constructions from The Hague and many post graduate qualifications in specialist areas including but not limited to Building Physics and Acoustics; Organization of Building Projects for Construction Companies; Indoor Climate as a Special Performance In A Building and Learning of Collapses, Bert blends academic knowledge with over 40 years of experience in the industry. He has held many executive level positions such as Architectural and Civil Engineer with Consultancy Van Eck Ltd; Owner, Independent Consulting Engineer & Manager of BJ-Consultancy; Director of J & F Building Division Ltd; Department Manager Building Services & Building Physics with Tebodin Consultants & Engineers and Partner at MGS Solutions. He also co-wrote a paper entitled “Revitalized by Sustainability.” He was previously or is currently a member of: ONRI (the Association of Consulting Engineers of the Netherlands), the board of the ONRI professional group Acoustics, Building Physics and Fire Safety, the CEE Green Building Professional Association and the business club & society Royal KIGC, Amsterdam.
Alongside his esteemed business career, Bert is a cultivated professional musician. He has been the lead trumpet and soloist spanning many genres such as jazz, classical, pop and salsa. Bands and musicals he has played for include the likes of the Rotterdams Jazz Ensemble; The Glenn Miller Band; King Cover; and musicals Funny Girl and Cyrano the Musical. He has played concerts with famous singers & musicians such as Helen Shapiro; Rita Reijs & Denise Jannah; Bobby Shew (trumpet); Ack van Rooyen (trumpet); Ferdinand Povel (tenorsax) and Frits Landesbergen (vibes). He has also done studio, radio and TV work. Between 1990 and 2000 he was also a professional Conductor and Arranger with the West Coast Big Band; Marching Band Amigo Leiden and for musicals such as Westside Story (original music), Foxtrot, Heerlijk duurt het langst amongst many others.
When Bert isn’t making Europe more sustainable or delighting us with his music he can be found on the golf course or enjoying tennis or football where he lives with his family in Leiderdurp, Netherlands.
