Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Colonel Douglas P. Yurovich
Colonel Douglas P. “Smash” Yurovich, retired Colonel of Marines, is the first Marine Colonel ever selected and designated as Commander and Deputy Commander of Navy Carrier Air Wing. As a senior executive, he employed a creative and resourceful approach to expanding operational capacity, and was known for boosting employee performance and knowledge while supporting corporate growth. Yurovich is experienced with managing large budgets and program operations, and understands what it means to be a true leader in business.
Currently, Col. Yurovich is Vice President of Programs SAIC, and is responsible for overseeing delivery of work and directing the USMC Directorate to meet customer and contractual expectations and attain profit and organizational goals. He establishes objectives, plans, budgets, and manages the operational, financial and technical performance of the organization. He identifies business opportunities, and initiates and coordinates business development strategies and proposal activities. Col Yurovich provides leadership and guidance to staff and manage a staff of approximately three hundred people directly or indirectly including subcontractors.
While employed with SAIC, one of his most significant achievements occurred when he eliminated a three-month schedule delay after assuming responsibility for a critical operational assessment of Joint Command and Control Information for a NATO effort. Under Col. Yurovich’s leadership, the project finished seven weeks ahead of schedule with more than $100K in profits.
Col. Yurovich holds both Bachelors of Science in Mathematics & Education from Ohio State University, going on to earn a Masters of Science in Aviation Systems from the University of Tennessee Space Institute after graduation from the United States Naval Test Pilots School. He also received a Masters of Science in Military Arts and Science from the USMC Command and Staff College, and a Masters of Science in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College. Finally, Col. Yurovich earned the highest academic degree of PhD, in Organization Management and Leadership from Capella University.
Col Yurovich is affiliated with The Society of Experimental Test Pilots, Ohio State University Alumni, Ohio State University President’s Club, Marine Corps Aviation Association, and College Outreach, to name a few organizations.
With a reputation for exceptional service, he has accumulated several awards, including the SAIC Achievement Award for Excellence in Science and Technology for Technical Collaboration, the Red River Valley Fighter Pilot Association Writing Award, and the Captain Stephen Hazelrigg Award for Test Team Excellence. He was also the recipient of the William Oxley Thompson Award from the Ohio State University Alumni Association for professional achievement.
Doug’s personal military awards include: Defense Superior Service Medal, 2 Legions of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with 5 strike flight awards; 4 Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, 1 with combat V for valor, and 2 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
Col. Yurovich enjoys football, particularly the OSU Buckeyes. He resides in Fairfax Station, Virginia.
