Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Dr. Patricia Ann Quattrin, PhD

Dr. Patricia Ann Quattrin was inspired to begin Benton Harbor Girls Association for Learning & Self-Esteem several years ago, when she came back to her hometown after graduate school. Dr. Quattrin noticed that her town changed from what it once was, a wonderful place in which to grow up. She found a disturbing crisis of child molestation and youth pregnancy. She reached out to her colleagues to find a way to open a school that would serve young women before they were in trouble. Dr. Quattrin set out to develop a program that would address young girls at the middle-school level, from 4th to 8th grades. The program would be a non-graded academic environment in which each girl could learn and develop at her own pace, a customized academic program whereby each girl learns at her individual skill level while building her self-esteem. Also included in the program would be domestic skill training, including cooking, along with personal hygiene and training in self-awareness and safety.

Today, as Executive Director of Benton Harbor Girls Association for Learning & Self-esteem, a 501C non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the educational opportunities for middle-school girls, Dr. Quattrin is seeking to develop synergies with investors to further advance the mission of her Girls Academy. She would also like to expand her influence by connecting with educators throughout the world.

She completed her PhD in Medieval Drama and Literature from the University of Notre Dame in 1993. She served as Visiting Professor at Grand Valley State University and Adjunct Professor at Western Michigan University from 1993 to 2007. Since the founding of the Benton Harbor Girls Association in 2006, Dr. Quattrin has been a dependable and inspirational leader helping young women in the most difficult times of their development. She has been a distinguished and experienced professional in youth development education ever since.

Dr. Quattrin enjoys baking, water exercises, reading, cross-country skiing, golf, volleyball and walking. She lives in St. Joseph, Michigan.
