Dr. Veronique Steukers is Director, Health and Environment Public Policy at the Nickel Institute. The Nickel Institute (NI) is the global association of the world’s primary nickel producers who together account for approximately 85% of worldwide annual nickel production outside China. NI grows and supports markets for new and existing nickel applications including stainless steel; and promotes sound science, risk management, and socio-economic benefit as the basis for public policy and regulation. NI is the centre of excellence for information on nickel and nickel-containing products and has offices in Asia, Europe and North America.
Dr Steukers has more than 18 years professional experience in the area of regulatory and government affairs as well as advocacy with metal and chemicals companies, having worked for Albemarle and Umicore previously. She has a deep understanding of international chemicals management gained through her involvement in EU and global chemicals policy processes and negotiations. Dr Steukers has a degree in Chemistry from the Université Notre Dame de la Paix of Namur, Belgium, and a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Exeter, Devon, UK.
Residing in Brussels, Belgium, she plays the piano and is now learning to play the clarinet. Besides music, she enjoys walking, jogging & traveling. She is fluent in Dutch, French & English.
