Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Harry Powers
Harry Powers is Professor Emeritus at San Jose State University in California. A Professor of Art there for over 27 years where he taught by example and lecture as a practicing artist. Harry still lectures on occasion but now works each day in his studio where he explores ideas and feelings in painting and sculpture. He hopes to continue to exhibit his work often in the near future.
Harry attended Stanford University, earning a Masters in Art History and Painting from 1951 – 1953. He attended San Jose State University for his Bachelor of Arts in Painting from 1946 – 1951. He specializes in painting and sculpture. He has exhibited his works globally in England, France, Australia, and New York and is currently working on an exhibit with his wife, Lynn Powers, who is also an artist. Recently they exhibited their works jointly at the de Saisset Museum in a show entitled “Couples.”
Harry created a six-foot acrylic plastic sculpture purchased by the City of New York, which was destroyed on 9/11 in the World Trade Center tragedy. The City of San Jose, California, purchased an 8-foot high bronze piece from Harry, which currently stands in the lobby of the Civic Administration Building in Dublin, Ireland. It is a gift from the people of San Jose to the people of Dublin. The San Jose Museum of Art has “Uccello Dreaming” in its collection. It is a 8’ bronze memorial to Dr Richard Tansey, author of recent editions of “Art Through the Ages”.
Harry is a recipient of the Spirit of Ireland Award presented by the Mayor of San Jose and the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Ireland. He is greatly interested in cosmology and music and they influence the content of his painting and sculpture. He loves connecting with old friends, and feels honored to be married to his wife, Lynn Powers.
The Triton Museum published a 50-page monograph of his work.
