Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Keith Bellows
Keith Bellows brings 25 years of experience in the leisure, travel and tourism industry to his clients. Known around the world for top-notch journalism when it comes to travel, Keith was Editor-in-Chief for National Geographic Traveler for 16 years and as Senior Vice President of the National Geographic Society and oversaw development and content for all travel media—including books, digital, special projects, and expeditions. He is a Board Member of the Family Travel Association, and will be taking a content role in the near future.
While Keith was at the helm, the magazine was recognized for a myriad of awards, including multiple nominations for the National Magazine Award, seven Folio Awards, and 60 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Awards.
Keith was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and attended Dartmouth College. An English and Geography major, he put his critical thinking and writing skills to work developing web content as early as 1994. He launched and produced numerous websites such as Excite.com, Babycenter.com, WestWorld Media, and also developed Metallica’s first website.
Keith has managed and created more than 30 media properties in print, TV, digital, and social media. He has given 400 total speeches, and served as commentator for NG Today, and ESPN college hockey. His television appearances include Today and Good Morning America for discussions pertaining to travel and his unique experiences.
An award-winning writer, Keith authored 100 Places That Will Change Your Child’s Life, which focuses on encouraging parents, corporations, and schools to view travel as a critical learning tool. He also co-authored The Canuck Book.
In 2002, Keith conducted a well-received TED Talk on the engineering marvels of the camel, naming the camel “the SUV of the desert. Visit “The SUV of the Desert” here.
The talk has amassed over 150,000 views. His wealth of experience has brought him two nominations for the National Magazine Award and he was a two-term board member of the American Society of Magazine Editors. Keith is also the winner of the 2011 Spirit of Kalliope Award for achievement in travel journalism, and has written for Esquire, Sports Illustrated, Parenting, AARP, and numerous other publications.
Long before it became fashionable Keith has been a champion of sustainability. He worked with many National Geographic explorers-in-residence and young explorers on animal welfare initiatives and human rights issues.
Equipped with a multifaceted skillset and rich background, Keith recently branched out on his own, taking a break from management and getting back to writing. He resides in Bethesda, Maryland and is active in travel consultancy, speaking, and media development—believing that travel influences every sector of the economy, is a technology leader, and touches us all in ways big and small.
