Bristol Who’s Who Recognizes Member, Darryl Leslie Smith
Darryl Leslie Smith, Partner at Data Education Systems, has almost 50 years of expertise in a variety of fields, including computer science, philosophy, and politics. After completing his master’s in Philosophy at the University of Waikato, he became a professor at the university and promptly started a computer society.
Darryl has always believed that there is a strong link between philosophy and computers. In 1988, he entered into a pro bono consulting partnership with his wife, to whom he has been married almost 50 years. Darryl also works with the government, writing legislative matters for parliament. His current focus is within the mining industry.
Possessing a unique vision, Darryl works with many organizations, including the Waikato Regional Councils and the Synod Diocese of Waikato. In addition to his master’s, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Western Australia. Some of his legislative positions include being a member of the Waikato Regional Council, member of Synod Diocese of Waikato, and a member of the Victoria Institute of Colleges. Other executive positions have included Foundation Head of Computer Science at the University of Waikato and Head of Information Science at the Bendigo Institute of Technology. Darryl has also held judicial roles, such as Justice of the Peace for New Zealand and Commissioner over 30 Resource Consent Public Hearings.
When he isn’t at the helm of one of his roles for the company or the community, Darryl enjoys a game of tennis. He once played against a Wimbledon finalist! He resides in Hamilton, New Zealand.
