Norman Sims is a Patent Attorney with over 30 years experience providing intellectual property advice and support to multinational companies from around the world. Recognized for his accomplishments in the field of patent law, Norman Sims has been the recipient of many accolades including the Six Sigma Green Belt at the Dow Chemical Company and The Amjur Award for Conflicts Law. He has been named a Leading Lawyer by Lawyer’s Monthly and the Top Intellectual Property Lawyer in 2014 by D Business Magazine.

Graduating magna cum laude from both Albion College (chemistry, pre law) and the University of Detroit School of Law in 1981, Norman Sims provided patent counsel from 1981-2009 to Dow Automotive where he led an Intellectual Property Services team. There he advised on mergers and acquisitions, all aspects of intellectual property agreement, preparation and prosecution of US and international patent applications, litigation support, trade secret protection, and the supervision of outside counsel and foreign agents. During this time he also served as Council Chairperson for the Intellectual Property Section of the State Bar of Michigan where he remains as a State Bar of Michigan Fellow. Norman is a member of the Michigan Intellectual Property American Inn of the Court and Steering Committee member for the State Bar of Michigan Patent Pro Bono program.

He joined the Dobrusin Law Firm as a shareholder in 2009. A boutique Intellectual Property Firm, Dobrusin provides services to a number of multinational companies from around the world. Norman Sims handles chemical based intellectual property matters which, includes advising clients on patent related business issues, drafting and prosecuting patents, intellectual property based agreements and the acquisition of intellectual property.

Norman Sims currently lives in Michigan with his wife and 3 children where he is the director of Stephen Ministry for Woodside Bible Church. He has been the president of two Jaycee Chapters (Romulus and Midland Michigan), a Cub Scout leader, and little league baseball coach.
