Biography :Darryl Leslie Smith is a Partner at Data Education Systems, a position he has held for over 28 years. With almost 50 years of expertise in a variety of fields, including computer science, philosophy, and politics, Darryl has served the educational field in compendium of roles.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Western Australia, and a master’s in Philosophy from the University of Waikato. He also holds a diploma in Theology from the Australian College of Theology. Upon completion of his master’s, Darryl became a professor at the university for 20 years, during which time he founded their computer society. Possessing a unique vision, he has always believed that there is a strong link between philosophy and computers.
Today, Darryl works with many organizations, including the Waikato Regional Councils and the Synod Diocese of Waikato. In 1988, he entered into a partnership with his wife (to whom he has been married almost 50 years), where he engages in consulting work pro bono. He also works with the government, writing legislative matters for parliament. Darryl’s current focus is the mining industry. He is a member of the Waikato Regional Council, the Synod Diocese of Waikato, Victoria Institute of Colleges, is the Chairperson of River Action FocusTeam (RAFT) Inc, and is a Justice of Peace for New Zealand.
