Biography :Dr. Janet Goldenstein Ahler is Professor Emerita at the University of North Dakota (UND). An expert in educational anthropology, Native American culture, Indigenous culture, qualitative research methods and various methods of learning, Dr. Ahler taught classes, advised students and conducted research for over 30 years.
Upon receiving her bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Dr. Ahler went on to complete her doctoral studies in Educational Anthropology in 1974 from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She is a member of the American Anthropological Association, the Council on Anthropology & Education and the Society for Applied Anthropology, and has been a presenter at Oxford University.
Prolific in the culturally-minded scope of her career, Dr. Ahler was awarded North Dakota Multicultural Educator of the Year in 1995, the North Dakota Indian Education Association Award in 2000; and the UND Rosa Parks Award for Justice & Righteousness in 2006. She enjoys volunteer work and traveling, and currently resides in Lincoln, Nebraska.
